Did you know that planting trees along streams is a good investment? Trees will provide you and your neighbors with a host of natural benefits every day: clean air and water, lower energy bills, opportunities to see wildlife and even higher property values.
PCWEA’s Streamside Nursery, located at the rear of Shutt Mill Park in Susquehanna Township, stocks wet-tolerant species of trees suitable for riparian buffer plantings. We currently have oaks, hawthornes, and crabapples available free of charge for organizations or individuals on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in obtaining trees from our nursery, please contact us via our Facebook page or email. Facebook Link
Some of the nursery stock was put to good use in two spring planting projects by The Rotary Club of Harrisburg Keystone and a group of residents from the Tuscan Villas neighborhood.
In April the Rotary Club of Harrisburg, Keystone obtained trees from the PCWEA Tree Nursery and planted one tree for each of its 30 members. Trees were planted in the Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg with locations for the plantings selected by a Capital Area Greenbelt Association volunteer. This planting contributed to Rotary International’s global goal of planting 1.2 million trees by partnering locally with other individuals and organizations to enhance and protect vital resources.
In May, private citizens from the Tuscan Villas community in Lower Paxton Township obtained trees from the Tree Nursery and planted several trees in a resident’s yard bordering a tributary of Paxton Creek.
